PATASKALA OHIO HISTORY
Richard Conine visited the area that was to later be known as Pataskala in 1805. He liked what he saw and decided to purchase 2000 acres of land here. The "Father of Pataskala," Conine returned in 1821 and built the first grist mill. By the end of 1850, he had sold most of his land, much of it to Jess Green. It was Green who actually put the village of Pataskala on the map; Green laid out lots, sold them, built buildings for businesses and donated land for schools and churches.
In 1851, the village received not only its first Post Office, but also received its name, which comes from the Indian word meaning Licking. The village continued to grow until it was incorporated in 1891. As of January 19, 1997, Pataskala was declared to be of city status when citizens of Lima Township and the Village of Pataskala agreed to a merger between the two communities. Pataskala's future looks economically sound, it is one of Ohio's fastest growing communities, which strives to retain its rural flavor
